Anita Anand is a remarkable figure in the world of history and literature. Born in London to Indian immigrant parents, Anand grew up with a strong sense of cultural identity and a passion for learning about the past. She went on to study history at Cambridge University and later earned a master’s degree in international relations from the London School of Economics. With a strong academic background, Anand embarked on a career as a historian, writing about a diverse range of topics such as the history of South Asian communities in London and the life of Maharaja Duleep Singh.
However, Anand’s passion for history goes beyond just writing about it. She has also been actively involved in uncovering hidden stories and promoting diverse voices in the field. In 2007, she co-founded the Forgotten Heroes 1857 project, which aims to commemorate the unsung heroes of the Indian Uprising of 1857. Anand’s dedication to showcasing lesser-known perspectives and shining a light on marginalized histories has earned her recognition and awards, including the Akademi Award for best biography in 2020 for her book “The Patient Assassin”. Through her work, Anita Anand has not only contributed to the preservation of history, but has also inspired others to take a closer look at the past and its impact on the present.
